About Us

The primary goal of the Clinical Trial Support Center (CTSC) is to educate, support, and empower patients and their caregivers to be active participants in their or their loved ones’ treatment decisions. Goals also include increasing opportunities for participation in clinical trials, facilitating informed decision making about participation, and mitigating barriers to enrollment.

CTSC Nurse Navigators educate patients and their caregivers about clinical trials and gather details about patients’ diagnosis, genetic profile, past treatments, physical condition, and medical history. They also review patients’ financial situation, insurance coverage, support network, and ability to travel. The Nurse Navigators then research available clinical trials and provide an individualized list of appropriate trials for patients to discuss with their healthcare teams. If the patient is interested in a particular clinical trial, CTSC Nurse Navigators help with enrollment by reaching out to clinical sites, connecting with the sites’ research nurses and trial investigators, and assisting with logistics that can present barriers to enrollment. After patients are enrolled or decide not to pursue enrollment, the same CTSC Nurse Navigator remains available for ongoing support.
